Sprint Cup 2014 Silly Season

Newest of the news:
  • MWR will be down to 2 full-time rides in 2014, making the #56 the “R&D Car”
  • Martin Truex Jr. is looking for rides
  • Jeff Burton already has a ride?

#1- Jamie McMurray will be back with Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing. McDonalds is expected back. No word on LiftMaster, Bass Pro Shops, Banana Boat, and Cessna/Textron but most are expected to return.

#2- Brad Keselowski and Miller Lite are signed through 2017. Miller Lite will be on the car for only 24 races instead of all of the races like in 2013.

#3- This could be Austin Dillon’s ride in 2014. If its not the #3, it would most likely be the #29. Pictures circulated with the #3 Cheerios Chevy but RCR declined that those photos were from them.

#4- Kevin Harvick will be in the #4 car next year when he goes to Stewart Haas Racing. Budweiser will follow. Outback Steakhouse will sponsor Kevin in 2 races. Every time Kevin gets a top 10, there will be free “Bloomin Onions” on Monday.  Jimmy John’s also followed Kevin Harvick, and will be the sponsor for 12 races. No word Rheem, who could follow Kevin or stay at RCR.

#5- Kasey Kahne is signed through 2015 as well. Farmers Insurance will be on the car for 20 races with Time Warner Cable (5 races), and Great Clips (10 races). Pepsi Max is expected to be on the car for at least one race in 2014.

#7- Dave Blaney is only signed through 2013, no word on 2014. No word on sponsors SAVY, Florida Lottery and GoPro. This team is up in the air but I would expect them back. Jeff Burton could come to this ride, after all he “already has a ride.”

#9- Marcos Ambrose is signed through 2013 and is close to signing a contract for 2014. No word on Stanley Black & Decker and DeWalt but diecast images have both on the car. The team has a contract with Ford through 2013 but do not expect them to change manufactures.

#10- Danica Patrick is signed through a few more years. GoDaddy.com is only signed through 2014. This team has struggled, especially for having Hendrick power.

#11- Denny Hamlin has at least a contract through 2013 but the contract is expected to go to 2015. FedEx will return with Sports Clip back for 2 races.

#12- Sam Hornish Jr. has done a few races in this car the past few years but Sam doesn’t even have a 2014 ride in NNS with Penske. I would hope to see him back in NNS with some more races in the #12.

#13- Casey Mears and GEICO are signed through 2014. The team has ran well this year considering funding. No word if Valvoline will return along side the #13 for a few races. The team will switch from Ford to Chevy with a RCR alliance.

#14- Tony Stewart owns the team and of course will return. Bass Pro Shops and Mobil 1 will return. No word on Rush Truck Centers. Code 3 Associates is expected to be a sponsor for a few races as well.

#15- Clint Bowyer and 5 Hour Energy are signed through 2014. No word on how many races  5 Hour Energy will be the primary sponsor for (20?). Peak Motor Oil will return for a few races as well. Toyota and Michael Waltrip Racing are signed through 2014 as well. No word on RK Motors, Gander Mountain and Toyota Care.

#16- Greg Biffle and 3M are signed through 2014. 3M will be the primary sponsor for 29 races, again. American Red Cross and Meguiars will return.

#17- Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is expected back. No word on Best Buy, Zest, Fifth Third Bank, Valvoline NextGen, and Ford Ecoboost. Nationwide Insurance will sponsor the #17 for a few races like in 2013.

#18- Kyle Busch is signed through at least 2016. M&M’s, Snickers, DoubleMint and Interstate Batteries will all return in 2014.

#19- Mike Bliss, Jason Leffler, and Alex Kennedy have been in this ride at various times this year. The team has struggled to even run a lap. No word on 2014 plans.

#20- Matt Kenseth is signed through at least 2015. Dollar General (17 races) and Husky Tools/Home Depot (21 races) will return.

#21- Trevor Bayne has had bad luck this year in the Nationwide Series and will be back next year full-time. He should return in a part-time ride in this #21 for the Wood Brothers.

#22- Joey Logano apparently signed through 2015. Shell-Pennzoil is signed through 2014. No word on AAA and Southern California Auto Club. Todd Gordon, crewchief, is only signed through 2013.

#24- Jeff Gordon is signed for life. Drive to End Hunger is signed through 2014. Axalta Coating Systems (previously known as DuPont) is signed through 2016. No word on Pepsi but they always return. Crewchief, Alan Gustafson, is signed through 2014.

#27- Paul Menard and his sponsor Menard’s are signed through 2016. So is his crewchief, Slugger Labbe.

#29- Kevin Harvick will leave this ride after 2013. He will go join Stewart Haas Racing in 2014. Budweiser will follow. No word on Jimmy Johns and Rheem. They could follow Kevin but no one really knows. Austin Dillon will replace Kevin. The #29 team could move to the #3.

#30- No Swan Energy, Lean1/Nutrition53 and Widow Wax. David Stremme was booted from the car and replaced with Cole Whitt. This came as a huge surprise and left David stunned.

#31- Ryan Newman will replace Jeff Burton with CAT as the sponsor. No word on any other sponsors.

#32- OxyWater will be the sponsor for all 36 races… No word on who may drive this car.

#33- This was a fill-in car in 2013 for Austin Dillon, Ron Fellows and Landon Cassill so no word on 2014. The car featured many sponsors but none of them have a commitment past 2013.

#34- David Ragan and his crewchief, Jay Guy, are signed through 2013. No word on any extensions. No word on Taco Bell, Detail Doctor, Peanut Patch, CSX Transportation, and Love’s Travel Stop.

#35- No word on Josh Wise or MDS Transport.

#36- No word on J.J. Yeley or Victor Gonzalez Jr. (road courses) for 2014. No word on Golden Corral, Accell Construction, or United Mining Equipment.

#38- David Gilliland is signed only through 2013. No word on 2014. No word on Long John Silver’s and Love’s Travel Stop.

#39- Ryan Newman will not be back in 2014, as he moves to the #31 for RCR. This team has under performed the past few years and will move to the #4 for Kevin Harvick. No word on Quicken Loans, WIX Filters, Aspen Dental, and Code 3 Associates which all sponsored Ryan this year. No more #39 for Stewart Haas Racing.

#41- Kurt Busch will drive the #41 Haas Automation Chevrolet in 2014 for Stewart-Haas. The number correlates with the teams #14 (41 the opposite way), #4 and #10.

#42- Juan Pablo Montoya will not return in 2014. Target is expected back. Kyle Larson will take over this ride. Juan Pablo is moving back to IndyCar.

#43- Aric Almirola and Smithfield Foods are signed through 2013. No words on if they plan to return in 2014. No word on STP, U.S. Air Force, and Mediallion Financial.

#47- Bobby Labonte is out and A.J. Allmendinger is in (in 2014). The performance of the #47 was poor this year with Bobby behind the wheel. No word on Bush’s Baked Beans, Clorox, Kingsford Charcoal, Kimberly-Clark, Lance Snacks, BUBBA Burger, Herr’s and House-Autry Mills. The team has looked into having an alliance with RCR in 2014, meaning the team could switch to Chevrolet.

#48- Jimmie Johnson is signed through 2015. Chad Knaus is signed through 2014. Lowe’s is signed through 2013. Rumors were circling that Lowe’s would back out but I am now being told that those are incorrect. I can’t even picture another company on the side of the #48. And oh yeah, bring back the yellow 48!

#51- Harry Scott Jr. is the new owner of this team. Justin Allagier will be in the car for 3 races in the final 10 of the season with BRANDT as the sponsor. Allgaier and BRANDT could be a full-time go in 2014 but nothing is official.

#55- Brian Vickers will be in the #55 next season (full-time). Aaron’s will be the sponsor for all 36 races.

#56- Martin Truex Jr. and this #56 have basically been dumped by MWR. This car will be limited next year and be featured as the “R&D Car” for research and development. This is all due to MWR’s actions at Richmond which resulted in NAPA Auto Part’s pull on their sponsorship.

#78- Kurt Busch will not return. Martin Truex Jr., David Ragan, Jeff Burton, and  Sam Hornish Jr.,  are all drivers who could be in this car next season. The team is looking into other younger drivers. The #78 will continue with Chevy and their partnership with RCR.

#81- Elliott Sadler ran a few races in this 4th JGR car in 2013 but the sponsor was pulled off the market.  No word on any 2014 plans.

#83- David Reutimann and BK Racing have struggled. David is only signed through 2013. No word on any 2014 plans.

#87- Joe Nemechek keeps on going… but will he go on to 2014?

#88- Dale Earnhardt Jr. is signed through 2017. His crewchief, Steve Letarte, is only signed through 2013 but expect him back. Rumors are circling about a new sponsor. No word on if Army National Guard and Diet Mountain Dew / AMP Energy will return in 2014.

#93- Travis Kvapil and BK Racing have struggled, again. No word on any 2014 plans.

#95- Scott Speed is out with Reed Sorenson stepping in… for the remainder of 2013. The team is looking for a 2014 driver.

#98- Michael McDowell has ran in this car in a part-time slot this year. No word on 2014 plans.

#99- Carl Edwards has been in many rumors but all have been false. Carl resigned in 2012 and Roush tends to do 3-4 year deals so Carl should be back. No word on how long Carl’s contract goes. No word on Fastenal, Best Buy/Geek Squad, Subway, Aflac, Kellogg’s/ Cheez-It, and UPS.

  1. Any word if Joe Gibbs Racing will run the #54 car with Monster Energy as the sponsor in the NASCAR Nationwide Series; as well as how many races Kyle Busch will drive in the Nationwide Series? Please email me with the latest news regarding this.

    1. Part of Kyle Busch’s contract requires Kyle to actually race for JGR in the NNS. This is what brought the Monster Energy sponsorship over to JGR. There has not been official word on whether the #54 Monster Energy Toyota will actually return next year, or change at all, but I would be shocked if anything were to change. I would expect to see Kyle in the car for about 25 races, just like this year.
